Hazardous Waste Unless Marked "No PCBs"

Electrical ballasts are used for fluorescent lighting. Old ballasts (pre- 1980) may contain polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). PCBs are highly toxic and do not break down in the environment. Learn more about PCBs .

Ballasts with PCB

Unless labeled "no PCB", ballasts are treated as hazardous waste. Take to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility for free disposal.

Remove ballasts from light fixtures before bringing them to the facility. Carefully package products for transport.

Ballasts marked "No PCBs" 

Dispose as garbage. Not regulated as hazardous waste if marked "no PCB".
